Full Tilt Quilt: a curve, wedge, composition and construction masterclass with Jenny Haynes

By Jenny Haynes

In this two day masterclass we will be playing with circles and wedges, colour and transparency. The class is based on one of Jenny’s design (#AktersnurraQuilt) but for the Full Tilt Quilt, the circular blocks will be multiplied and flipped, cut down and reassembled to create a kaleidoscope of colour. This is also a two-in-one design where the cut-offs create a second surprise design.

What will you learn?

Amongst the many techniques and skills covered in this class are no-pin curves, seam matching, pressing, colour work and construction. Jenny will show you how to transform the design by altering the colours and the colour placement either using prints, solids or a mix of both.

For whom?

The class is targeted to the experienced quilter who would like to develop their craftsmanship further. Adventurous and brave beginners should also feel encouraged to apply. No previous curve experience is required, but general quilting knowledge is assumed (how to use a rotary cutter, sew with an accurate seam allowance etc.) and an eye for precision always helps.

Itinerary

‘Get Ready!’ Session
14th of April, 2026, 19:00 CEST - Zoom Meeting
To get all participants ready for the masterclass, Jenny runs a ‘Get ready!’ session via Zoom a month in advance. This allows you to get oriented on what we will be doing during the class and get your fabric and tools ready.

In this two hour online session Jenny will be guiding you through the design and pattern, templates and pre-cutting. We will also talk about how to choose fabric and colours that accentuate the optical illusion, by using tools like drawing programs and colour apps, as well as coloured pencils.

You will be sent the recording of this online session so you can review everything at your leisure.

Day 1
We start with checking colours and placement before we begin assembling our first circle. Jenny will share her tips on sewing curves using no pins, matching seams and pressing curves.

Day 2
We look at how the composition, transparency and overall look of the final piece would change by altering the position of the second cut. We weigh up our different options before proceeding with cutting up our first circle, sewing additional circles and moving on to reassembling our circles.  Lastly we look at different ways the cutoffs can be used to create a second quilt design, whether its symmetrical or improv.
