The machine
The embroidery machine in the museum works with two threads: one thread on the top and the other thread on the underside. This is comparable to a sewing machine. The upper thread is pushed through the fabric with the needle and together with the lower thread this forms a stitch. The machine can work with 12 different colours in one design.
The design
A design can be provided in different ways. A drawing, photo or text will be scanned or the design can already be present on a diskette or CD. Via a special computer program the digital file is read in and converted for the embroidery machine.
The material
There is a professional Threadbank in the TextileLab, meant for the users of the TextileLab. The Threadbank has differing embroidery threads in its collection. These threads can be supplied to order for use in the TextileLab.
