The MuseumFactory - Group 7 and 8

The textile industry that later grew into a flourishing industry determined the townscape of Tilburg over a very long period. Factory building, workers dwellings, manufacturers’ villas, chimneys and factories, they are all witnesses to an industrial past.
With the interactive program ‘The MuseumFactory’ you make acquaintance with the industrialisation in Tilburg. The program consists of a guide tour and assignments.

Would you like to know what artists do with textile materials?
In the TextileLab you can learn about the various techniques that we use in the museum. In the exhibition you can see what artists make and in the Children’s Workshop you can have a go yourself.

Felts  - Group 1 to 8 inclusive

Do you think that working with wool is just for old ladies? Certainly not!
Discover the Textile Museum get to work with wool yourself!

In the TextileLab, where people are hard at work, you get a guide tour of the most modern textile machines.
In addition you get to know about felts: using soapy water, heat and friction, wool can be turned into felt. This happens because the woollen fibre’s scales bond together. The most important requirements in the workshop are also hot water, soap and friction! You can try it out yourself with carded wool of various colours.

Magic Textile - Group 5 to 8 inclusive

Do you think that only the machines in the TextileLab can magic up the most beautiful textiles?
After this workshop you will certainly know better!
Do some investigations in the TextileLab and surprise yourself with Magic Decorations!

Together with a museum teacher you can get started with Magic Textile yourself. Using this decorative technique, special textile foils are ‘magically’ ironed onto a textile base.
